MACS Matchmaker
The MACS Matchmaker is for research use only. Read this page and the Important safety information chapter of the user manual before operating the instrument.
Electrical and Laser Safety
- Protection class I. To disconnect the instrument from the power supply entirely, unplug the power cable — the power switch alone does not isolate it.
- Class 3B laser product. Do not stare into the beam. The reader contains two lasers, at 784 ± 5 nm (molography) and 663 ± 5 nm (fluorescence); both are enclosed in normal operation.
- Do not open the enclosure. Installation is carried out by authorized Miltenyi Biotec service providers, and servicing and repair by Miltenyi Biotec certified service personnel. Report faults to lino Biotech Support, which arranges the service.
Biological and Chemical Safety
- Treat all biological material as potentially infectious. Wear personal protective equipment — gloves and safety glasses at minimum.
- Decontaminate the instrument after processing hazardous or potentially infectious material. The fluidic decontamination run uses the MACS Matchmaker cleaning solutions (Clean 1 and Clean 2); outer surfaces are wiped with 70% isopropanol or 70% ethanol. See Maintenance & Troubleshooting.
- Handle the regeneration and cleaning reagents according to their own safety data sheets. Guanidinium chloride, sodium hydroxide and SDS each carry hazards this page does not reproduce.
Operating Limits
Exceeding these limits risks damage to the fluidics or the optics rather than injury, but they are limits, not recommendations.

Waste and Disposal
- Fluidic waste collects in the waste bottles and carries whatever was injected — samples, running buffer, regeneration and cleaning reagents alike. Classify and dispose of it according to those contents and their safety data sheets, under the rules that apply at your site.
- Used chips have carried the same material. Handle and discard them on the same basis as the samples that passed over them.
- Decontaminate the instrument before it is serviced, moved, or taken out of use, so that whoever handles it next is not exposed to material they did not run.
Documents Supplied With the Instrument
Three things are deliberately not reproduced here, because they are issued with a specific instrument and revision rather than with this manual. Take them from the documentation shipped with your unit:
- The symbol and label legend — the meaning of every marking on the housing and the packaging.
- Declarations of conformity, and the standards the instrument was assessed against.
- Installation, environmental and electrical requirements — supply, clearance, ambient conditions.
